Business dispute breaks out over paying costs of accident cleanup

It is an unfortunate reality that at some point in time many businesses in New Jersey will likely find themselves a party to some sort of litigation. The causes of business litigation can vary greatly, but failure to pay for services rendered is probably one of the most common causes. That appears to be the case in a recent dust-up that started due to an accident that occurred on a highway in New Jersey and the cleanup efforts that occurred in the aftermath.

According to a recent report, C&L Towing Inc. of East Hanover has filed a lawsuit against a trucking company over a reported $62,000 in cleanup costs. The report indicates that on June 24, 2014, a tractor-trailer slammed into a cement truck. Three people died in the collision. In the lawsuit, the towing company alleges that their workers were on the scene for three days cleaning up the ensuing wreckage and damage.

The lawsuit seeks to hold the trucking company responsible for the costs because of some reported comments that the driver of the truck made to the New Jersey State Police as they were conducting their investigation. The driver allegedly stated that he took his eyes off of the road and lost control of the truck.

Business disputes are not uncommon, but most companies probably do their best to resolve issues with other parties out of court. Unfortunately, this isn't always an option when disagreements are hard to address. Businesses in New Jersey that become a party to litigation, either as plaintiff or defendant, will want to make sure that they know all of their legal options.
