Hearing for Time Warner, Comcast merger set for end of March

The internet and, indeed, most of the United States did a double-take a couple of weeks ago when it was announced that Time Warner Cable and Comcast -- the two biggest cable providers in the U.S. -- were joining forces in a massive $45.2 billion deal. The merger was immediately questioned and criticized by many people, as concerns about a monopoly were raised.

Such anti-trust concerns are obvious very real whenever the top two companies in any industry merge. In this case, the Senate Judiciary Committee has announced that on March 26, representatives from Time Warner and Comcast will be questioned about how their merger will work, and what the companies' plans are not just for the deal, but for the future of cable service in the U.S.

Given the size and scope of this merger, the scrutiny is certainly fair. However, this is not uncommon for major business deals like this. Federal inquisitions will be made, and the two companies need to demonstrate their intentions and compliance during these hearings and interviews.

It is simply another layer that businesses need to go through during an already-complicated time. Mergers and acquisitions are complex, intricate and demanding deals that require those involved to pay attention to detail -- and the legal know-how to ensure the deal is compliant.

Not every business has this know-how, so they turn to experienced business attorneys who have worked with mergers and acquisitions before. Ensuring that the deal is done properly and efficiently is crucial for all parties involved.
