Business formation and tax considerations in New Jersey

For people in New Jersey that are starting a new business, it can be both an exciting and frustrating time. Many people are just anxious to get started, but are forced to slow down and deal with all of the issues that surround business formation. One of those issues that must be dealt with is taxes.

New Jersey business merger: US Airways and American may merge

Travelers in New Jersey may not have been aware that shareholders of US Airways Group Inc. met on July 12 to determine whether to merge with American Airlines. Shareholders voted overwhelmingly in favor of the business merger. Now, it will be up to regulators in the United States and in Europe to determine if the merger should be allowed to happen.

Harris Teeter set for business merger with Kroger

Kroger Co. makes a rare bid to buy Harris Teeter Supermarkets Inc. for $2.5 billion. The business merger will allow Kroger Co to enter markets that in which it has not previously had a presence. Harris Teeter doesn't have stores in New Jersey, but anyone who has been to our nation's capital may have stopped into one.

Yale University files business litigation against Yale Academy

Name recognition is a big deal in business. Presumably, the more a company can get its named recognized by people, the more business it will attract. It is because of this that some companies initiate business litigation against another company whose name is believed to be too similar. This was the case when Yale University filed a lawsuit against Yale Academy, a college admissions business in New Jersey.

Smith Barney business merger can finally be completed

Many in New Jersey may remember that in January 2009, Smith Barney was owned by Citigroup. Morgan Stanley made a move to purchase a 49 percent interest in Smith Barney. Recently, Morgan Stanley was given the go ahead to proceed with purchasing the final 35 percent interest in Smith Barney to complete the business merger. Regulators had been waiting to determine whether Morgan Stanley afford the purchase.
